Chiang Mai's Reopening for International Tourists postponed to November 1

The National Security Council has proposed to postpone the opening of the sandbox pilot areas in 5 provinces, namely Bangkok, Chonburi, Chiang Mai, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi from the original 1st October to the new date of 1st November. The target of vaccinating 70 percent of the population in these areas has not been reached unteil 1st October.

Travel Requirements for Chiang Mai during Covid-19 Pandemic

Chiang Mai Province has issued the following rules (No. 81/2564):

Measures to control travelers from the highest and strict control areas, Rayong province and Mae Sot district, Tak province.
The highest and strict control areas in 29 provinces are Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, Chonburi, Chachoengsao, Tak, Nakhon Pathom, Nakhon Nayok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Narathiwat, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Prachin Buri, Pattani, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Phetchaburi, Phetchabun, Yala, Rayong, Ratchaburi, Lopburi, Samut Songkhla, Sing.

Register at least 24 hours before arriving at Chiang Mai Airport at CM Chana and show the evidence to the officials.

Everybody has to be tested for COVID-19 (swab) and has to self-isolate for a period of 14 days.

You can request a waiver (no need to test for covid 19 and no need to quarantine) in case of complete vaccination (First dose of AstraZeneca not less than 14 days or 2 doses of Sinovac or other brands of vaccine accepted by the Ministry of Public Health). You have to submit evidence along with Form 4 to the Disease Control Officer. The person who gets the waver has to record the daily details for self-assessment according to the form 3.

If a traveler has fever, cough, sore throat and runny nose, the Disease Control Officer may issue an order to test for COVID-19 (swab) and to be quarantined for 14 days at his own expense from the date of entering the province at the state quarantine facility or a hotel designated by the Chiang Mai Disease Committee.

Those traveling from other provinces do not need to quarantine, do not have to have a swab test, but must closely monitor their symptoms.
